BCAG has worked with local jurisdictions and Chico State to develop a set of base map layers for the Butte County region. The base map layers consist of a countywide parcel, road centerline, and address layer in GIS format. The use of common base map layers ensure that all local agencies' GIS are based on the same foundation, improving data sharing capabilities and reducing redundancy of effort.
BCAG continues to maintain and update the GIS address and road files, with data provided by the local jurisdictions. BCAG maintains an annual contract with Chico State University's Geographic Information Center (GIC) to perform the updates.

In 2011, BCAG developed a set of GIS regional planning datasets to assist with preparing the area's Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Communities Strategy. BCAG works with the local jurisdictions to maintain these datasets on an annual basis.
